Missouri state Sen. Bill Stouffer has introduced legislation that would change the Missouri Vehicle Safety Inspection Program to exempt vehicles from testing for their first 10 years. Missouri Senate Bill 58, introduced Jan. 7, has been passed by the Senate and is now in the hands of the Missouri House of Representatives. The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is urging automotive repairers in the state of Washington to contact their state legislators in opposition to House Bill 1714, concerning association health plans (AHPs). On Jan. 27, 2009, Washington state Rep. Eileen Cody introduced two pieces of legislation that could be harmful to state association health plans. The automotive repair industry, like other small businesses, is suffering through these economic times. Coating Makes Scratches on Cars Disappear from Reuters Scientists have developed a polyurethane coating that heals its own scratches when exposed to sunlight, offering the promise of scratch-free cars and other products, researchers said. Worst is NOT Over: RMA Sees Further Shipment Fall from Tire Review RMA now says that 2009 U.S. tire shipments will fall more than 7 percent, a sharp drop that follows a 9 percent overall decrease in 2008. RMA projects that total tire shipments will decline by some 21 million units to 261 million tires, "a level last experienced in 1993 and approximately 60 million units fewer than the 321 million unit peak in 2000," the group said. GM CEO Sounds Alarm on Suppliers from The Detroit Free Press General Motors Corp. Chairman Rick Wagoner warned that the financial stability of U.S. auto suppliers was "getting more precarious," and that a GM bankruptcy could lead to the company's demise.
